Volunteer Guidelines for Participation

We appreciate your interest in volunteering with GleaND. Please read through the following guidelines before registering as a volunteer.

By registering as a volunteer with GleaND and attending events that we sponsor, you are agreeing to the following guidelines for participation:

Purpose

  • The purpose of GleaND is to capture excess produce from local growers to provide fresh, healthy food options at charitable feeding organizations in our communities. Volunteers will conduct themselves in a manner consistent with that purpose while attending events sponsored by GleaND.

Attendance

  • Volunteers are expected to be punctual in arriving at gleans.
  • Volunteers are expected to stay for the entire duration of the glean. Please only sign-up for gleans for which you are able to stay the full time.
  • Cancel your roster spot within 48 hours of the glean if you are unable to attend.

Who Can Volunteer

  • Everyone who attends a glean must register as a volunteer and sign-up for a particular glean via the GleaND calendar.
  • Only individuals who sign-up for a specific glean can attend. Adults who have not signed up for a glean are not permitted to attend.
  • Youth under age 18, attending a glean with an adult, do not need to register as volunteers. Guardians are required to sign the waiver form, agreeing to provide supervision.

Liability

  • The Volunteer Liability form must be acknowledged at the time of glean sign-up.

Personal Conduct

  • Smoking is not allowed at gleans.
  • Volunteers are not allowed to bring alcohol, animals, firearms, or glass bottles to gleans.
  • Gleans are conducted on private property that the owner has granted GleaND permission to enter and glean. Volunteers will conduct themselves in a manner that is respectful of the owner’s property at all times.
  • Volunteers will be respectful of other participants at gleans.
  • Volunteers will listen to and follow the rules of each particular glean as given by GleaND staff or designated assistants.
  • GleaND reserves the right to deny entry to, require to leave, or remove from the registration list any volunteer who does not follow these Guidelines for Participation.

Attending the Glean

  • Bring water.
  • Wear sunblock.
  • Take care of any bathroom needs before arriving. Restroom facilities are not accessible at all sites.
  • Wear appropriate attire. We suggest a long-sleeved T-shirt, long pants, comfortable closed-toe shoes, a hat, and gloves.
